Scientists at the National Marine Aquarium recently had the chance to study the effects of human stress level after looking at an aquarium for few minutes and found that it significantly reduced the heart rate and blood pressure.
Some researchers even believe that gazing at an aquarium for a couple of minutes is one of few ways of natural meditation. It’s not that surprising a result – Aquariums have always been known to be calm and relaxing.

But why does it work so effectively?

Another study by researchers from BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore saw subjects report a dramatic reduction in stress level and an increased sense of physical relaxation when they listened to music that played at 60 beats per minute.

The song was also designed not to have a repeating melody so that the brain does not try to predict what will come next, which is said to help induce a deeper sense of relaxation. It's apparently so effective that people are advised not to listen to it while they drive.
